Farming and the environment : New approaches that are transforming the landscape...

Farming practices have changed over the years, whilst our consumption has grown. Whilst farmers are the custodians of our landscape, their practices are under scrutiny in terms of environmental impact. We are joined by Dr Vincent Walsh, the regenerative farming expert, who will outline the challenges facing farmers, the solutions available and how these can both improve yields but also work hand in hand with the environment. Vincent has designed our Bio-Hub project and will outline the steps taken so far and the benefits we anticipate.

During an Environment Forum day, the Swinton Estate’s Rural Manager will explain the Estate’s policy on transforming upstream marginal farmland into carbon sequestration and natural flood defence sites – with particular focus on the first phase of tree planting at Sole Beck.

The Estate tour will include a visit to regenerative farming scheme such as the Estate’s Bio-Hub site (or a local farmer who has adopted new practices), and onward to the new woodland at Sole Beck. If in season, there will be an opportunity to plant trees, and from there a visit to our carbon neutral Woodchip Boiler, to see the operation in practise.
