Biodiversity Net Gain

Enhancing resilience and biodiversity, providing solutions for developers.

Recent planning and land management regulations mean new developments must now deliver at least a 10% Biodiversity Net Gain, not simply replace what is lost. Achieving this on-site can be costly and reduce the space available to build, which is why many developers choose to purchase off-site BNG units instead.

Swinton Estate has created dedicated habitat banks that generate BNG units developers can buy to meet their legal requirements. This allows them to focus on building while we focus on delivering meaningful, large-scale nature recovery.

Our registered units are available across two Estate sites and come with a 30-year commitment to monitoring and management, ensuring long-term, measurable biodiversity improvement.

Biodiversity Net Gain Measurement

The baseline for our BNG sites is established using a combination of drone assessment, site walkover and water accumulation assessment.
