Carbon Neutral Biomass

Since 2006, our Biomass boilers have saved approximately 7500 tonnes of CO2e.

Our first boiler was installed in 2006 at Swinton Park, and at the time we were the first hotel in the UK to adopt this carbon neutral technology. This was followed with another in 2013 with the launch of Swinton Bivouac, our off-grid glamping site and the third in 2017 which provides all the hot water and heating the Country Club and Spa. All boilers are fed by woodchip from the certified sustainable Swinton Estate woodlands, derived from thinnings or surplus wood from felling operations.

The energy is carbon neutral because the carbon that is released (which equates to what would be released naturally) is replaced by carbon in planted trees and natural regeneration.
