We will be joined by a local wildlife expert on Pennine wild flower meadows, introducing the species and wildlife that are most prevalent, and the success of the Nidderdale Natural Landscape’s donor meadow scheme.
During an Environment Forum day, the Swinton Estate’s Rural Manager will present our plans for the creation of fen and scrubland at Van Diemen’s explaining what the positive benefits will be, what species we expect to see and how we will measure the increase in biodiversity.
On our tour of the Estate we will visit our wild flower meadow at Bivouac and carry out a species survey to measure and compare against our current one. This will be at a time of year when the meadow flowers will be beginning to drop their seeds, which we wait for before a late cut for hay. The trip will include a walk to the moorland with our ranger, who will explain the principles of moorland management and to the bird hide to view the ground nesting birds’ habitat.
