Award Winning Eco Design at Head Office

Recognition for ground-breaking construction techniques.

Swinton Estate was awarded Best Sustainable Country Estate 2023 by Build UK in recognition of the Head Office project which employed ground-breaking design. Hardwood frames, using Estate timber, were used rather than steel and concrete – which would have had a carbon footprint of over 20 tonnes. Designed with the support of conservation experts, this has helped establish that timber in construction can play a key role in sequestration, acknowledging that it can last for centuries. The project is entirely cement free, using lime instead which has 50% lower emissions. Other sustainable materials include natural wood fibre insulation which stores 322 kg/m3 of CO2. The timber frame’s carbon footprint is NEGATIVE 10 tonnes.
