Spring Climate Action Academy Action Day

The Climate Action Academy Action Day on 17th April 2026 was a fantastic success, seeing many of our Nourish partners visit the Swinton Estate to gain valuable knowledge from experts.

The partners heard from Tom Previte from Restord and Joe Lofthouse, the Estate’s Grounds & Gardens Manager, about Biochar, and Marian Wilby from Nidderdale National Landscape about the benefits of herbal leys, soil carbon fundamentals and their implementation in wider mainstream and wider agriculture. Joe also delivered a session on peat bogs and peatland carbon.

There were also practical sessions, including a demonstration of how to make and apply Biochar in the Walled Garden, along with soil profiling and pH testing in the Bio-hub.

Nourish partners in attendance include Hill Cross Furniture, McInroy & Wood, NFU Mutual, HECK!, GSC Grays, Advantage Utilities, Yorwaste, Odyssey, and GenNorth.
